Sanctuary Choir

The Sanctuary Choir provides music leadership in our Sunday morning worship service and prepares larger works for special seasons of the church year. Their leadership in worship both anchors and lifts the experience and expression of worship for us all! Notable rhythms of the Sanctuary Choir year follow the liturgical year, with meaningful offerings during Holy Week, Easter, Pentecost, and our annual Lessons & Carols service each December. The Sanctuary Choir is open to all adults and rehearses on Wednesday nights, 6:30-8:00pm, in the Choir Room.

Should you have any questions about the Sanctuary Choir, please contact David Williamson, Associate Pastor for Worship, Arts, and Administration.

Choral Scholars

The purpose of the Choral Scholars program at First Baptist on Fifth is to create opportunities for area college students to gain experience and training in church music, while providing them a church home and a loving, supportive community to minister to them while they live in Winston-Salem.  Each student will receive a stipend for singing in the Sanctuary Choir and serving as section leader.  These scholars will be responsible for knowing all service music with acute accuracy, leading sectional rehearsals, and occasionally providing solo music throughout the liturgical year.

Should you have any questions about Choral Scholars, please contact Jake Hill, Music Associate & Organist.

Chancel Ringers

First Baptist Church offers a handbell choir for older teenagers and adults called the Chancel Ringers. The Chancel Ringers are open to adults possessing basic music-reading skills and available to audition for Pastor David. This group leads in worship on a regular basis and gathers for rehearsal every Wednesday from September – May, 5:30-6:30pm, in the Sanctuary. The Chancel Ringers enjoy two sets of handbells: a 3-octave set of Malmark Handbells and a 4-octave set of Schulmerich Handbells.

Should you have any questions about the Chancel Ringers, please contact David Williamson, Associate Pastor for Worship, Arts, and Administration.

Guest Musicians

Throughout the year, First on Fifth enjoys the worship leadership of gifted local guest musicians. You can find them creating an orchestra and rounding out the Sanctuary Choir during Lessons & Carols, accompanying the Sanctuary Choir on various instruments, and guiding special services with vocal solo spirituals. We are so grateful for these friends who enrich the musical life of our worship!
