One Saturday every August the church house at First on Fifth transforms into a missions hub for Serve Together. Sunday School rooms become work sites where school-aged kids and adults assemble care packages for Crisis Control and Forsyth Jail & Prison Ministries, and PIVOT Ministry. Tables in Kelly Auditorium become writing stations for Care Notes—writing encouraging cards for home-centered folks, incarcerated folks, and teachers. Other tables in Kelly Auditorium become advocacy centers with Baptist Christians reaching out to their representatives to ensure that religious liberty extends to all neighbors—especially our vulnerable immigrant neighbors. The Baraca Room becomes a Mission Fair where folks from First on Fifth can interface with representatives from over 18 local ministries doing good work to help those in need.
The good work also extends throughout Winston-Salem. One group will be helping out at Una Bendicion, a local agency that helps immigrants and those in need by offering food and community resources. Another group will be rebuilding a blessings box at the Dwelling and stocking it with food for unhoused neighbors downtown.
During the taco bar lunch, we will learn more about ways we can continue to serve in our community throughout the year and hear from speakers about Forsyth Jail & Prison Ministries, Forsyth Strong, GreeNest, and Shepherd’s Center. We’ll also hear about how First on Fifth approaches missions and how service is integral to our faith.
This year marks the third year of the Mission Committee’s Serve Together event—and it will be one of the most unforgettable yet! We hope to see you at the church house this Saturday, August 15 from 9am to 1pm for a time of missions, food, and fellowship. Please bring a suggested donation of $5 to contribute to the taco bar lunch.
Serving together,
Kyle
