Hello friends!
I write this from my couch at home, wrapped up in a blanket, enjoying the bright snowy view out the window. I hope you are all keeping warm and have fared well through this winter storm! I was sad that the storm caused us to postpone the church wide Sunday school class that was to take place this past Sunday. The 100th Celebration Task Force looks forward to us all gathering together now on February 15. The delay has even given us time to make our time together even better!
The theme for this church wide Sunday school gathering is Stories That Built This Sanctuary. Together we will remember the stories that built the place we call our church house and renew our calling to build the church for generations to come. We will hear from a number of church members, spanning generations, as they share their reflections about our sacred space and how being a part of First on Fifth has impacted their lives. Everyone will have the opportunity to explore the display that will be set up around the Sanctuary and take part in an interactive prayer station as we all consider what kind of church we are still building. This gathering is designed for all ages. We do hope you will be able to join us on February 15!
My prayer for us this week, while we’re all stuck at home, is that we’re all able to tap into what it means to be home. What makes a place feel like home? How does our home help give shape to who we are? What does it mean for us to be a part of First on Fifth and to call 501 W 5th Street a kind of home? What role do each of us have to play in the continued story of our church house?
Stay warm friends!
Mary
