Still Standing

| October 8th, 2026

I’m still standing. Yes, after a full weekend of road trip singalongs, beach outings, fort explorations, late night laughs, fast food, ice cream, and worship, I’m still standing. Last weekend when our sanctuary was adorned with flags to celebrate World Communion Sunday, the youth were away at the annual CFBNC Fall Beach Retreat at Fort Caswell. This annual fall tradition has become a way to build community within our group and grow in our relationships with God and one another.

The theme for the weekend was “I’m Still Standing” and the story of Joseph in the book of Genesis was the focus. We learned about Joseph’s resilience in the face of the ups and downs of life, the ways he dreamed, the ways he overcame setbacks, and through his faithfulness to God was able to forgive those who wronged him. It’s a story that both young and old can relate to. Each of us carries burdens and hopes in our lives. Sharing life together only helps us stay faithful to who God says we are—not what all the outside voices may say about proving our worth or earning love. Joseph was beloved by God and so are we.

Highlights of this trip included 6 first-time attendees on the fall retreat, seeing chaperone Kris Norris relive his youth group days of exploring the forts and playing basketball in the gym, actually getting to stay in a cottage this year (instead of the barracks!), and seeing Eli and Kate lead in worship. The dance party and the free time meal at the Lazy Turtle on the Oak Island beachfront were wonderful highlights of a full Saturday.

The youth are grateful for all those who made this trip possible—by supporting our free time meal and praying for us throughout the weekend. Big thanks to the wonderful chaperones Meredith, Sam, and Kris who show constant care for our students and create an environment where every single youth feels welcomed as they are.

On Sunday October 18, our youth will be walking in the CROP Walk and are currently raising money to support hunger relief in our community and throughout the world. Our goal this year is to raise $3,000. Click here to donate. With your support we can meet and exceed this goal!

Still standing together,

Pastor Kyle
