Sock Puppets, Cosmic Cows, Dad Jokes, and Wide Open Spaces

| July 17th, 2025

What does a sock puppet show, a cosmic cow, reading the bible, the life of a rain drop, church music, silly dad jokes, creating new friendships and deepening old friendships, having a radical life-changing week, and lots of silly laughter have in common???  Passport Kids camp!!!

Many of our 3rd – 5th graders (11 of them!) were able to make their way to Passport kids camp June 30 – July 3rd at Montreat Conference Center with the stellar chaperone support of Wally Cox and Olena Withrow.  I loved whipping out my old bus driving skills to load everyone up and listen to the giggles of kids as I drove down the road.  Throughout the week, the three of us adults witnessed 11 of these amazing and awesome kids learn how to sharpen life skills like time management, ordering their own food at restaurants, trying the questionable food on the buffet line in the cafeteria (they did great!), figure out group dynamics with their peers, lean into their passions of writing their own songs to sing, crafting their own plays with multiple characters, ask good questions about the CBF field personnel Carson and Laura Foushee in Japan, explore what it means for God’s love to be wide open and how we can step into the wide open spaces to help welcome, act, wonder, and dance.  We watched them passionately do motions to worship songs and sing like it was their own love song to God, and we laughed so much with how funny they all are in their own unique ways.  We had an awesome week with our First on Fifth kids and you all should be incredibly proud of all the ways our church invests into the lives of our children.  It is making a difference!

We want to extend a special invitation to each of you to join us on Sunday, July 27 at 11:00am as our children and youth lead the entire worship service from start to finish.  They will be sharing about their experience at Passport, giving testimonies, teaching you all the songs they learned at camp, and leading you through prayer experiences.  As we cultivate the wellbeing of children together, I know you will not want to miss this opportunity to support our kids leading you in worship.  This will certainly be a memorable experience for all of us as we worship God together.

You are loved!
