Renewed Sense of Wonder

| October 16th, 2025

Hello all!

Mary here, enjoying these beautiful fall days we’ve been having. Fall is my favorite season for so many reasons and I can’t help but to think of a passage from one of my favorite books when October rolls around.  “Oh, Marilla,” Anne exclaimed one Saturday morning, coming dancing in with her arms full of gorgeous boughs” ‘I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers. It would be terrible if we just skipped from September to November, wouldn’t it? Look at these maple branches. Don’t they give you a thrill–several thrills? I’m going to decorate my room with them” (Anne of Green Gables).

I can’t help but to feel Anne’s several thrills in the fall as I think it is when God’s creation is the most beautiful but also because, for me at least,  fall feels like a new beginning. I always feel the urge to make a big change in the fall and feel a renewed sense of wonder and initiative to make things happen!

Perhaps you feel the same these days. If so, the New Member Ministry Team would love for you to join us on  Sunday, October 26 for First on Fifth 101. This gathering is designed to help our newer members take a deeper dive into life at First but can also be a great experience for our not so new members as there might be new opportunities you aren’t aware of or questions you still have about life at First on Fifth. We will gather in Kelly Auditorium, from 4-7pm, for an evening that will provide you essential information about the life of our church, with specific attention given to helping members of our community know how to become more deeply involved in committees and ministry teams, the church’s various ministries and how to connect to ensure you receive our communications. Additional information about all things finance will be shared as a means of further orientation to our community. We will also have a number of  mission partners represented in a Mission Fair for you to learn more about their work and how to get involved.

All are welcome to attend! As we share dinner together you will have a chance to get to know those around your table and ask any question you may have about First on Fifth. Really, any question; the staff and church leaders are ready for them! RSVP by October 22 by clicking here. I hope you enjoy these fall days and hope to see you on October 26!
