Compassionate and Present God,
As we gather in this place, at this particular time, our hearts and minds are filled with many thoughts and emotions. We live in a world that is ever changing, experiencing unprecedented environmental changes, changes in attitude toward one another and the governing bodies – yet we know that in the midst of the changes and the struggles, you are constant, you are present with us, always ready to encourage and empower us to be the light and the hope in the midst of change.
God, you created all races and nations to be one family, you sent your Son, Jesus, to proclaim the good news of salvation to all people, to show us how to love and live together. May we remember today that your Spirit is alive, giving us wisdom and strength to bring justice and love to all the nations of the world. May we hold our light and our love high for all to see.
May your Spirit give strength to all your people as they work and witness in this world. Unite us in your truth and love, and help us to show your love to others.
We pray especially for our leaders, both locally, nationally and abroad. May they use wisdom and compassion as they lead and guide your people. As we approach an election this year, be with us as we seek your guidance and wisdom as to what is best for our country and for the world. It is a difficult time, one that at times feels frightening, scary, uncertain. May we remember and hold to your unfailing love and constant guidance as we navigate these times. Show us, remind us, that hope is alive, you are alive, and we do not walk this journey alone.
We pray today for our families and friends. Give us guidance as we support and encourage one another. May we be a companion to all those we love and care for giving light to the darkness, embracing the love that you have given us for each other.
We pray for those who are hurting, grieving, dealing with mental health concerns. Give us compassion as we sit with and show love to those who are sad, lonely, physically ill and struggling with changes in body, mind and spirit.
God of hope, we thank you that not nothing, absolutely nothing, can separate us from your love. We offer these prayers to you, giving you the days before us, knowing you will lead us and teach us as we move through each day.
Hear us now as we pray together the prayer Jesus taught us to pray…Our Father
