Loving God, we come to you today grateful that you are always at work, even when we cannot see it.
In a world that often measures success by what is immediate and obvious, you remind us that your kingdom grows like seeds beneath the surface, quietly, patiently, faithfully. Long before we notice new life, you are already bringing it forth. So today, we simply begin by saying thank you.
Thank you for refusing to give up on us. Thank you for sowing grace into lives that are still being transformed. Thank you for believing that love can flourish in places where the rest of the world has stopped looking for hope.
God of endless patience, we know that we don’t always make it easy for your love to take root. Sometimes our hearts become hard with disappointment. Sometimes they become shallow with busyness. Sometimes they’re crowded with worry, about our families, our work, our health, our nation, and the future we cannot control. So today, gently tend the soil of our lives.
Break open whatever has become closed. Pull away whatever is choking out joy. Water whatever has begun to dry out. Help us become people who are open to your Spirit again.
Creator God, we pray for your world. There is so much that weighs heavily upon us. We pray for places where war continues to steal lives and hope. For communities devastated by violence and hatred. For neighbors struggling to make ends meet. For those who wonder whether anyone sees their pain.
Plant peace where there is conflict. Plant justice where systems have failed.
Plant compassion where fear has taken hold. And where we are able to become part of the answer to those prayers, give us the courage to say yes.
We pray for those who face challenges, physical, mental or spiritual. For those waiting for test results. For those beginning treatment. For those living with chronic illness. For those carrying invisible burdens that no one else knows about. May they know that they are held by your love and surrounded by your presence.
We pray for those who are grieving. For those whose loss is fresh. For those whose grief has become quieter but no less real. For all who are learning how to live with an empty chair or an unanswered phone call. Be near to them, O God.
Ever present God, we pray for this your church. Thank you for the ways we continue to plant seeds of hope throughout our city. Thank you for every volunteer, every teacher, every choir member, every deacon, every child, every longtime member, every visitor and newcomer, every quiet act of kindness that no one else ever notices. Remind us that none of it is wasted.
Too often we long to see the harvest right away. But you invite us simply to be faithful. To keep loving. To keep welcoming. To keep serving. To keep believing that even the smallest acts of grace matter.
As we continue asking what it means to be fully human, help us remember that to be human in the way of Jesus is to become people who scatter hope generously, who refuse to let cynicism have the last word, and who trust that your Spirit is always bringing life from places that seem impossible.
And finally, God, we pray for ourselves. Show us one seed you are inviting each of us to plant this week. One conversation. One act of courage. One word of encouragement. One step toward reconciliation. One opportunity to love someone who needs to know they belong. May we leave this place trusting that you are already preparing the ground ahead of us.
We ask all these things in the name of Jesus Christ, who taught us that your kingdom is always growing among us, and who taught us to pray, saying…
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.
Amen.
