God of all places, who speaks in all places, help us to hear:
On the mountain, we hear your voice clearly, inviting us to listen to the voice of Jesus—
who calls us to love as you love and to show mercy as you show mercy,
to offer grace to one another as you offer grace upon grace to us,
to serve one another and befriend one another as Christ serves and befriends us.
God of all places, who speaks in all places, help us to hear:
In the valley, we hear your voice calling out through the cries of those in need—
those who need healing, those who need access to medical care, those who grieve and
need comfort, those who bear scars of past wounds. Those who can barely make ends
meet. Those whose pantries go empty. Those who are lonely. Those who need a safe
place. Help us to hear even when the valley grows dark and the land hungers and
thirsts and rocks cry out.
God of all places, who speaks in all places, help us to hear:
In the desert, we hear your still, small voice whispering within the scorching winds—
Winds of distraction. Winds of doubt. Winds of division. Winds of despair.
In this season of Lent—marked by fasting and repentance—we are reminded that we
are dust and will return to dust. But let us not forget, O God, that we are also breath.
Breathe new life in us—when we find ourselves and our souls in the dry place. Kindle
hope in our hearts—for your living water is not a mirage.
God of all places, who speaks in all places, help us to hear—and help us to pray:
In this place—praying as Jesus taught us, saying:
Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
