This Sunday, June 28, we invite you to join us for a special *potluck* brunch in Kelly Auditorium at 9:45 as we gather around the table to celebrate community, freedom, and our shared commitment to building a more just and compassionate world.
Independence Day offers an opportunity to give thanks for the freedoms we enjoy while also reflecting on the unfinished work of creating liberty and justice for all. As people of faith, we recognize that patriotism is not simply celebrating what our nation has been, but participating in the ongoing work of helping it become what it can be.
One of the voices that continues to guide that work is Fannie Lou Hamer, a fearless civil rights activist and a woman of deep faith who courageously fought for voting rights and human dignity. Hamer famously said, “Nobody’s free until everybody’s free.” Her words remind us that freedom is not just for those of us who experience freedom in abundance, but it is indeed a collective responsibility. We are called to care for one another, advocate for justice, and ensure that every person is treated with dignity and respect.
So come enjoy good food (that you’ll help provide!), a short program involving music and a litany, and the company of your church family. Whether you are a longtime member or a first-time guest, there is a place for you at the table.
Join us as we celebrate freedom, community, and the hope that perhaps one day, everyone will truly be free.
