November 14 | A Conversation with Dr. Amy Butler, 7:00pm

First Baptist on Fifth is delighted to welcome Rev. Dr. Amy Butler on November 14, at 7:00pm, for a wide-ranging conversation about the future of the church and the Beloved Community’s role in leading with hope.

Pastor Amy is author of Beautiful and Terrible Things, significant thought leader, and noted pastor, who currently serves as the Designated Pastor of Community Church of Honolulu and before that, served for five years as the seventh Senior Minister and first woman at the helm of the historic Riverside Church in the City of New York. She holds degrees from Baylor University, the International Baptist Theological Seminary, and Wesley Theological Seminary. Pastor Amy’s professional ministry career began as the director of a homeless shelter for women in New Orleans, Louisiana; she later became Associate Pastor of Membership and Mission at St. Charles Avenue Baptist Church in the city of New Orleans. In 2003, Butler was called to the position of Senior Minister of Calvary Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.’s Chinatown, where she was also the first woman to lead that historic congregation. Pastor Amy created and leads Invested Faith, a 501(c)3 organization founded to help individuals and religious institutions use their assets to fund the work of faith-rooted social entrepreneurs building businesses that are changing unjust systems.

Our friends at Bookmarks will be onsite that evening to sell copies of Beautiful and Terrible Things, and Pastor Amy will sign books at the conclusion of the evening. All are welcome!
