Each year as the calendar turns, our world saturates the airwaves, the feeds, the ads, the expectations with ideas about our new year’s resolutions. And the turn from a dark 2020 into a hopeful 2021 is no different! Lose that quarantine weight! Finally take up that hobby you’ve been meaning to learn since lockdown! Save all the money you can!
While the “new year, new you” mantra can often hurt more than help, there does seem to be a gift in the possibility that something new brings. A blank slate. A chance to try. An opportunity for growth. This winter, we’ll listen throughout the lectionary for invitations to make new promises to God, to one another, and to ourselves in this new year.
