Inspired by God at work within our people, written by the Special Committee on Facilities and Mission, and unanimously affirmed by the congregation in March, our church’s new vision statement tells a story about a people, a place, and a calling. For the Spirit has been at work among us, inviting us in this season of our common life to, in the words of Dr. William Sloane Coffin, “risk something big for something good.” In so doing, we’ve taken our cue from Jesus, whose life and ministry capture his vision of a new day, a kingdom where God’s dream for this world is made possible. Using our lectionary texts this month, we will explore our vision statement together in worship, letting the stories of Jesus in the Gospel of Mark inform our understanding of this vision for First Baptist’s future that God has given us.
