In October, we have several unique opportunities in which our members can engage. From serving the homeless to reaching out to our friends at Forest Park Elementary to providing support to those in eastern NC who have been impacted by Hurricane Florence, we are able to impact many lives. Consider these opportunities:
Samaritan Ministries
On Monday, October 15, a group from First Baptist on Fifth will serve the homeless staying in the overnight shelter at Samaritan Inn. By serving dinner in the soup kitchen and performing overnight monitoring duties, we will breathe life into the Samaritan Ministries’ mission statement, “providing food, shelter and hope through Christian love.” If you are interested in serving in this capacity, contact Ray Owen (raywowen@gmail.com) for more details.
Habitat for Humanity Meal Delivery
We are planning to support the work of Habitat for Humanity by feeding dinner to seventeen Habitat for Humanity volunteers from Villanova University and three Americorp workers at the newly constructed Habitat Lodge on Tuesday night, October 16. These students are here during their Fall break to serve others by working on a Habitat home. We are in need of desserts and people who would be willing to deliver this meal. Contact Joani Hughes (joanirhughes@gmail.com) regarding this opportunity.
Meal for Forest Park Parent Night
On Thursday, October 18, our church will provide a meal to the parents and students of Forest Park Elementary School. Families will be attending an open house at the school, and we hope that having food available will give parents one less thing to think about as they learn more about their children’s school. Approximately 10-12 volunteers are needed and all ages are welcome! Contact Kim Wilkinson (librarykimw@gmail.com) to find out more.
