There are many conversations and events bubbling up in our community around issues of social justice. It is both an important and an exciting time for us to link arms with others in our community as well as to take advantage of these excellent educational resources. One such resource is the America to Me series. The Winston-Salem Foundation is hosting screenings of this documentary series by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Steve James. Set in one of Chicago’s most racially diverse public schools, America to Me examines the role that race and class play in American education. The next screening, Academic Expectations Based on Race, will be on Tuesday, August 6 at the Central Library, 6:00-8:00 pm. For more information, go to the Winston-Salem Foundation website (wsfoundation.org) and look under “Latest News.” Understanding the history of where we have been will help inform our movement forward as we seek to mitigate poverty and cultivate the well-being of children
