This week around the church house…
Deepest thanks for all whose presence and leadership on Sunday made possible a tremendous celebration for the end of Phase One of our building project! Between our delicious pot luck breakfast, our chilly and blustery dedication of the ramp and prayer room, our meaningful worship (complete with several power surges too!), and the spirit and Spirit that encircled us all, Sunday was a day to remember. Special thanks to these folks who brought it to life!
*Our special guests whose tireless work on the project made it possible: Tim Carper and Steve Hicks from Frank L. Blum Construction, Michelle Walter from Walter Robbs Architects
*Our speakers who beautifully captured this season of our church’s life: Joe Bircher, lead architect; Gary Knight, chair of the Special Committee; and Scott Hudgins & Mary Foskett, lay leaders throughout the preparation for construction
*Our chief videographer, Carlos Mir, who told the story of the project in image and song
*Our volunteer team who made breakfast memorable and delicious: Joy and Chris Gambill, Pat Thompson, Lynn Rhoades, Leslie and Matt Lowdermilk, Lee Anne and Gary Stiffler, Nancy and John Baxley, and Sibyl and David Smelcer.
*Ralph Messick and Linda Pepper for the beautiful communion table design
*YOU who came and celebrated in full measure!
Around the site, several final pieces of work continue this week and will until completion in December. We’ll see crews finishing the copper roofing on the front gables and a-frame, finalizing tower restoration in places that couldn’t be accessed because of the location of the scaffolding, repairing the interior walls in the Sanctuary narthex and restrooms where the bolts securing the scaffolding had been inserted into the walls, staining the new brickwork on the back of the building for a seamless look, and finishing the retaining wall on the Spruce Street side of the back lot.
Thanks for your patience in this season of transition!
