Bread For the World: A Four-Week Preaching Series
In the Gospel of John chapter 6, we hear a number of stories about Jesus and bread — bread fed unexpectedly to thousands, bread referenced as Jesus reminds his disciples of God’s promises, bread given as Jesus proclaims, “I am the bread of life,” and bread as everlasting promise of belief. Pair these texts with those from Ephesians regarding how to live the Christian life with one another, and the lectionary both serves us a feast upon which we can be nourished in the living of our days and a reminder of the famines that exist in our lives and our world. Our worship throughout the month of August will see us gathered around the literal and proverbial table, dining together with the One in whom all might never hunger again.
